Self Compassion – a New Resource
April 17, 2020
You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.
-Sharon Salzberg

One of the ideas that came to us from the survey we got back from many in our Exchange Community, was the need for a tool that would help directors or professors use selected Exchange articles for in-person or online staff or student discussion groups, with guided questions and follow-up steps provided by us.

You asked, and we went to work! We are pleased to provide Exchange Reflections, which are put together by a team of our Dimensions Educational Research Foundation education specialists. (Exchange Press is part of Dimensions Foundation).

The first one is based on Tamar Jacobson’s article on Self Compassion. Here’s an excerpt from the article:

“Self-compassion helps me become more aware of why I do what I do authentically and intentionally. If I find myself cautioning children who try to do something challenging, it probably has something to do with how I was not trusted to do things when I was a child. Therefore, I become more aware of how or why I blurt out things to children, and I am able to choose responses that are more helpful or appropriate for children’s development.”

Another idea from the survey that we are using with some of our resources is the “choose your price” option during this challenging time. The regular price of Exchange Reflections (which you can distribute to your staff or students) is $10. For those of you able to pay regular price, thank you. It helps us keep paying our staff. For those of you who need to use the 50 percent off coupon, we understand. Times are tough right now and some budgets are on the edge. Please do what works in your own circumstances.

We hope this new resource will be supportive, time-saving for you, and inspirational for your staff or students. We’d love to hear how it works for you. Stay tuned for more titles soon!

And here’s another great quote on self-compassion for all of us: “I now see how owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing we will ever do.” – Brené Brown
