Today is National Honesty Day
April 30, 2004

"Love alone is capable of uniting living beings in such a way as to complete and fulfill them, for it alone takes them and joins them by what is deepest in themselves." - Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

TODAY IS NATIONAL HONESTY DAY

We have been reminded by Kristen Plemon at C. Bloom and Associates that Friday April 30 is National Honesty Day. Kristen comments:

Teaching honesty has never been more important than right now, as young people have watched numerous accounts of questionable behavior unfurl in the news: the arguments leading up to war, the 9/11 Commission hearings, corporate scandals, plagiarism by a news reporter, and a student faking an abduction.  Young people will continue to face ethical challenges in their schools and homes, but we can help them to develop character to remain strong and true through adversity.

Honesty is a universal value that is the foundation for friendship and community.  The wise philosopher, Socrates, once said, "The shortest and surest way to live with honor in the world, is to be in reality what we would appear to be; and if we observe, we shall find, that all human virtues increase and strengthen themselves by the practice and experience of them."

So today and for the rest of our lives, let's all work at being honest with ourselves and with others.

There is a continuing debate about how and whether to teach values in the preschool.  To read feedback we've received on character education in our ExhchangeEveryDay of October 25, 2002, go to...
