Deep Appreciation for Life

Real development is not leaving things behind, as on a road, but drawing life from them, as from a root.
G. K. Chesterton

Speaking about natural outdoor classrooms on a DVD called Learning Naturally, Exchange Leader Eric Nelson asks the question, "What is it about these spaces that help children connect deeply with the caring, nurturing parts of themselves?" Here’s part of his answer:

"Regular time spent in nature-filled outdoor environments provides opportunities for children to develop a deep, personal connection to the natural world. This chance to connect with beauty and wonder can help them call upon their inner strength and follow their own path. As nature connections help children experience deep appreciation for life, they are supported in developing compassion for themselves and for others."
