Sing and Celebrate the Seasons

Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there.
Will Rogers

“We are all teachers in life,” writes Rusty Keller in his beautiful book, Natural Playscapes: Creating Outdoor Environments for the Soul. “What we say and how we act gives children a glimpse of what it means to be human. Children learn with their whole bodies through the experiences we share with them. The environments we live and work in are teachers, too. They show children what the world is made of…They have the potential to be gentle guides in the natural flow of childhood…

We adults must create environments that sing and celebrate the seasons. We can plant trees that give shade in the summer, burst into color in the fall (and provide loads of leaves to play with), go dormant and woody in winter, then in spring renew the cycle with a sea of green. Beautiful.”
