Hungry for Meaning

We must be the peace we wish to see in children.
Janet Gonzalez-Mena

Simon Sinek (probably best known for his TedTalk, “Start with why -- how great leaders inspire action”) was interviewed by David Hassell for the website 15Five.com:

“I want people to act with intention,” explains Simon. In order to encourage his team to act with intention, all team members know that they need to be prepared at the drop of a hat to explain the reason behind the actions and decisions. As Sinek explains, this encourages intention and helps make sure that every action is taken with the goal of moving their WHY forward.”

In a similar vein, Ann Pelo and Margie Carter, in From Teaching to Thinking, talk about educators’ need to connect with what’s most important:

"We believe that educators hunger for deeper meaning in their work. We believe that educators long to be challenged into their biggest, deepest, most startling thinking and questioning. We believe that educators are ready to have their hearts cracked open and their imaginations ignited.”
