The latest title in the “From Surviving to Thriving” video series from Exchange, Hinge Brokers, Dan Huber (Video Active Productions), and Roger Neugebauer features interviews with early childhood experts such as Yale University’s Walter Gilliam; well-loved author Ann Pelo; Strategic Planning Consultant, Duane Dennis; University of Nebraska Lecturer and Lead Teacher, Mismiki Montgomery; and so many more. This video has been designed to spark discussions about ways to address inequities in early childhood education. Plan to share it with staff, use it in a college course, or simply gain new ideas for yourself. Feel free to share it with your networks and colleagues.
Another great resource for exploring this topic is the Exchange Essentials article collection, “Anti-Bias Education,” featuring articles from authors such as Ijumma Jordan, Louise Derman-Sparks, Anita Howard, John Nimmo, and Iheoma Iruka. Here’s an excerpt from one of the articles by Debbie LeeKeenan and Betty Allen:
“Sometimes teachers embrace the need for and goals of anti-bias education, yet are not sure how to make them part of their daily program. If we think of the classroom as a laboratory for children learning about themselves, the world around them, and for developing their interactions with children and adults, then incorporating anti-bias themes into daily curriculum becomes natural.”
