You are Invited on an Incredible Journey

How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in life you will have been all of these.
George Washington Carver

A diverse and dedicated group of people have come together to convene an action study for reimagining the work of early childhood education. You are invited to join this dynamic effort. Please read the invitation below from the Reimagining Our Work (ROW) Convening Group:

In the ROW Initiative, small groups of people come together as a study-for-action cohort for a series of conversations over a substantial stretch of time to do the work of reimagining early childhood education. As a catalyst for this work, the Reimagining group reads From Teaching to Thinking: A Pedagogy for Reimagining Our Work, using it as a tool to uncover longings and to call forward new possibilities for how we do our work in early learning. Facilitators guide this process.

But the ROW Initiative is not a book study. It is study for action. We envision that questions and longings will give rise to change-making action. The work of the ROW Initiative is not simply to read a book together, but to move the reimagining process forward, and create necessary change in the early learning landscape.

We are using the questions posed by From Teaching to Thinking authors Margie Carter and Ann Pelo – “What convictions drive your work? What story are you making of your life? For what do you want to be known?”  and “What kind of world do you want to live in?”

These questions can provide  the beginning for most of our work.  How do we seize this as an opportunity to reimagine the re-creation of an equitable, adequately funded early childhood system with programs that engage the lively minds of children, their families, and educators? It is in the deeper discussion of these questions that people can permit themselves to see what needs to change in order to become who they choose to be and to contribute their part to the world they want to champion. It is in these discussions that they can find the courage to step away from practices they no longer (or never did!) believe in and step into new and ever evolving opportunities.

This is a journey, not a destination.  It is not about everyone coming together around an agreed upon big idea or way of working. As everyone knows, we are living in unprecedented times. Disruption on this scale brings both angst and opportunity. Our leadership is more important than ever – and the opportunity is at hand to fully reimagine our work. So, let us talk together and each of us decide on the actions we will take.

Come, join us on the journey of our lifetime!
