Lesson in Integrity- Remembering Lucille Bridges, Mother of Ruby Bridges

Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.
C.S. Lewis

The Mindshift website shared a notice from Ruby Bridges about her mother Lucille’s passing and her example of how to live a life of integrity: https://www.kqed.org/mindshift/56963/lucille-bridges-mother-of-anti-segregation-icon-ruby-bridges-dies-at-86

In the book, Art of Leadership: Leading Early Childhood Organizations, one of the contributors, Maurice Sykes, recommends a self-awareness exercise to help leaders assess their strengths (such as integrity) that they can rely on in their work. He urges:

“Ask yourself this:
Who am I?
Why am I here?
What am I good at?
What difference do I plan to make in the world?
How do others see me?
What is my leadership style?
What is my strongest belief, that thing that motivates my every action?

...Leaders who have a good and realistic sense of self will instill confidence in those they lead and inspire them to do their personal best for the organization and for the children and families they serve.”
