Taking Action for Equity and Inclusion

You don't have to become something you're not to be better than you were.
Sidney Poitier (1927-2022), in The Measure of a Man: A Spiritual Autobiography

In one of two videos which shape our latest Exchange Reflections Video Edition, “Social Justice and Early Childhood,” Mismiki Montgomery ponders the impact of whether we put our energy towards hatred and division or towards positive action and connection: “If you could just imagine how much more we could put the energy of hatred or division towards making our countries, our states, our towns, our schools, and our kids better instead of the energy that we put towards division because this person is different because of their skin color, because of their cultural traditions, because of, you know, their DNA. If we did take that energy and just eliminated the competition and put it towards just getting together and coming to the table and having conversations and breaking bread together, can you imagine how much of a shift it would make?” Montgomery and other early childhood professionals invite you to consider your role in a shift toward a more just and equitable world for today’s children, and the questions and sample commitments included in this Exchange Reflections can help teams open the conversation and take action.
