In Memoriam

In Memoriam

Dear Friends and Colleagues of Richard Scofield,

It is with profound grief and sadness that we share with you the tragic news that Rich Scofield died. Surrounded by loved ones and friends, Rich died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center at 8:00 p.m., Monday, July 19.  He was doing something he loved, swimming, when the tragic accident occurred that led to his death.

Rich’s vast contribution to the field of school-age care is beyond measure.  He will long be remembered for his trailblazing creation of School-Age NOTES which will begin its 25th year of serving the school-age care community.  Rich, a visionary founding board member of the National School-Age Care Alliance (now known as the National AfterSchool Association), he impacted thousands of children, families, and providers with his writings and public speaking.  He lived life with irrepressible spirit and tenacity as well as generosity and sensitivity. There are no words to adequately describe the emptiness left behind by his death.

The School-Age NOTES staff will continue to produce the monthly newsletter, the After-School Catalog, and the on-going work of the company.  We wish to assure the subscribers to our newsletter and our many customers that all services will be continued.

Rich will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.  Messages of condolence can be sent to Rich’s family at:

2934 Vaulx Lane
Nashville, TN  37204

or to the School-Age NOTES office at:

P.O. Box 40205,
Nashville, TN 37204

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on July 31st at 2:00, at Harambee Auditorium located at the Retreat Center at Scarritt-Bennett, Nashville, TN.  Visitations are: Wednesday,  July 21st  4:00 – 8:00 at his home and on July 31st 1:00 at Scarritt-Bennett.  A tree planting and reception will follow the service at Rich’s home on July 31st.

In lieu of flowers, please send contributions in honor of Rich’s life work to the Richard T. Scofield Memorial and Education Fund for Children at Bank of America, 645 Thompson Lane, Nashville, TN 37204

With Gratitude For The Blessings Of His Life,
