Our Community of Mutual Support
May 18, 2020
The more healthy relationships a child has, the more likely he will be to recover from trauma and thrive. Relationships are the agents of change and the most powerful therapy is human love.
-Dr. Bruce Perry

A Message from Nancy Rosenow, Exchange Publisher, on behalf of the whole Exchange Team:

As we begin another week facing uncertainty and challenge, one thing I know is that the early childhood community is filled with people of courage, good will, and strength of heart.

One of the reasons Roger Neugebauer and Dan Huber volunteered to work with Exchange and Hinge Brokers on the creation of the “Surviving to Thriving” video series was because of their great respect for each of you as early childhood professionals.

Recently Dan, of Video Active Productions, asked me if he could reach out to our community, inviting you to contact him if you might be able to help in the creation of future videos. Here is Dan’s message:

“One of the gratifying elements of working on the video series has been sharing examples from around the country of programs and teachers discovering creative ways to communicate with children and families. The energy, enthusiasm and shared feeling that animates these presentations is inspiring. So, with more videos in production, I’d love to see other examples of what’s happening in the early learning community. Any programs that have compelling, innovative videos, photographs or other communications from Zoom, Facebook, FaceTime, or YouTube that you’re willing to share in future videos, here’s how: Send links (not the actual media) to Dan Huber at [email protected]. If we decide to include a portion of your program’s presentation in a future video, I’ll reach out to access the source media through a large file transfer platform.

Thanks in advance for your help and I look forward to seeing and sharing your imaginative uses of our digital tools,
Dan”

I told Dan that my experience has always been that our community is one of mutual support – more about collaboration than competition. Thank you for sharing your important work to help make the video series even more inspiring.

I want to leave you with a thought for our week ahead that comes from Lilian Katz in an article she wrote that’s included in the book, Art of Leadership: Developing People: “It is helpful to assume that the people we work with have the capacities for greatness, creativity, courage and insight.”

I couldn’t agree more.

Here’s to a courageous week ahead. Take care of you,
Nancy
